The Media Technologies Engineer Manager is responsible for providing system design, classroom multimedia and video production equipment support, maintenance and directing technical staff in support of these systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Supervise responses and responds to service calls in classrooms

• Plan, supervise and provide maintenance support for classroom multimedia equipment and systems

• Provide overarching design for classrooms and campus venues incorporating HyFlex and media reinforcement

• Provide vision for longer-term implementation of classroom and venue technology

• Track condition of media systems across multiple campuses

• Make arrangements to send out failed equipment for repair when necessary

• Maintain inventory and documented records of classroom equipment and systems

• Maintain preventative maintenance schedules

• Keep system firmware and software updated with the most current version

• Assign staff and support “media events” requests as assigned

• Assist with maintenance of video studio equipment and systems and production-engineering services

• Design, Maintain, install or upgrade specialty sound/audio/video equipment and systems

• Create and update system AutoCAD drawings

• Process and Documentation: Document service and support processes and activities to establish standards and set expectations for customer service 

• Maintain departmental IT infrastructure – network switches, router, fileservers, and associated equipment.

• Request proposals, review proposals and act as project manager for projects involving outside vendors

• Manage parts stock inventory

• Supervise full-time engineering staff

• Supervise contingent employees

• Support/Maintain digital video streaming systems hardware, software and infrastructure for cable television access and live events

• Support Distance Learning classroom hardware, systems and instructors

• Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

• Performs other related duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

• Possesses up-to-date professional technical skills which include the use of Microsoft/Google tools, 25Live, iOS, AutoCAD, NDI and other specialty software packages 

• Experience in programming Extron and Crestron control systems

• Working knowledge of Extron Global Configurator (network managed multimedia control systems used in classrooms)

• Training and working knowledge with evolving video systems and standards

• Working knowledge of campus classroom multimedia and sound equipment including large venues

• Exhibit professional behavior and judgment when handling sensitive information, assuring confidentiality

• Ability to use good judgment to resolve problems in a timely manner by collecting, analyzing, collaborating, and utilizing data for decisions while being responsive to change as needed

• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent in Electronics, Broadcast Engineering or related field.  FCC license background is also preferred

• Possess valid Michigan driver’s license

Work Experience

• 10 years design and installation experience in audio visual systems

Skills

• Training and working knowledge of distance learning delivery technologies including analog and digital satellite downlink and their operations, CODEC, fiber optic and I.P. based delivery systems

• Strong computer skills with a good understanding of IP, streaming and other “network” based video delivery methods as well as Unix based operating systems

• The ability to design and install video/audio network systems and provide system schematic diagrams

• Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to read and troubleshoot electronic circuits using schematic diagrams, using industry proven television engineering practices and methods

• Ability to design, troubleshoot and service RF CATV/CCTV and fiber optic signal distribution systems

• Excellent interpersonal and phone skills with ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, to assist students and staff in a professional manner

• Experience tutoring/teaching adult students 

• Ability and willingness to acquire and maintain technology certifications and keep up-to-date professional/technical skills research and implement new technologies used in the industry related to the college’s support requirements

• Successful experience working with diverse populations

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., visually assess video quality, audibly assess sound quality

Mental Demands

• Ability to handle multiple priorities, and solve engineering problems quickly in a high stress situation

• Demonstrated ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and to effectively work as a member of a team
