The Automotive Lab Technician’s position is primarily to provide support for the automotive faculty in order to support the learning activities that take place in the automotive labs. The position is responsible for maintaining the functionality and organization of automotive equipment, inventory of necessary supplies, and parts for vehicles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist the Automotive Faculty in organizing shop materials, equipment, vehicles and lab projects in order to support the hands-on learning that takes place in the automotive labs

Facilitate a preventive maintenance program for the automotive lab equipment including coordinating maintenance activities with faculty, staff, students, and vendors to minimize equipment downtime

Provide mechanical support to maintain, inspect, repair and install equipment when needed. Coordinate work done by internal departments such as facilities, IT, and external vendors to complete repairs and installations of lab equipment

Work with faculty and public on customer work orders, scheduling customer work orders, and collecting payment

Maintain inventories of vehicles, tools, equipment, preventive maintenance lubrication schedules and order parts/supplies as required

Assist the Automotive Faculty with the students in their labs as scheduled and approved ahead of time

Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

Educational Credentials

Associate’s degree in Automotive, State of Michigan Master Certifications, or equivalent work experience required
