Perform carpenter maintenance in all college buildings on all campuses and sites. Carpenter will, in the course of the work, affect the operation or service of all aspects of the college community. This work includes skill in installing, maintaining, and repairing different panic hardware, door closures, and ADA openers. Therefore, duties must be performed in an expedient and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan, layout and organize work with minimum supervision
- Move and relocate equipment and materials, when necessary in accomplishing work assignments
- Ensure appropriate housekeeping occurs and maintain cleanliness of work and surrounding areas at all times
- Order material as required for assigned projects with supervisor approval
- Responsible for FMX work order handling, processing, and reporting
- Comply with all MIOSHA, OSHA, EPA, ADA and all related safety codes and measures
- Operate and maintain associated carpentry equipment including power saws, drills, radial arm saw, grinders, table saws, sanders, jointers, routers, and other carpentry hand and power tools
- Construct and repair structural woodwork and equipment working from blueprints and/or oral instruction
- Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, building framework and trim
- Hang and finish sheet rock
- Hang marker boards, chalkboards, tack boards, display cases, artwork and signage and postings
- Install, maintain and repair doors, door hardware, windows, window hardware, floors, ceilings, partitions, office equipment/furniture, classroom and laboratory fixtures/equipment, and athletic fixtures and equipment
- Perform minor roof repairs including flashings. Perform masonry and ceramic tile repairs and concrete work including forms, reinforcing, and finishing
- Provide backup to the lock shop when locksmith unavailable
- Assist other operations and maintenance staffs as required
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and drawings
- Perform all discipline-related assignments as directed by supervision
- Monitor installation and repairs performed by contractors to ensure appropriate requirements are accomplished
- Ensures appropriate personal safety training and compliance guidelines are met
- Provide input on capital projects related to carpentry needs
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on building requirements
- Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Educational Credentials
- High school degree or GED diploma required
Work Experience
- Five (5) years of experience as journeyman carpenter preferred
- Must be familiar in the safe and skillful operation of all trade tools, materials and equipment
- Knowledge and experience in design, planning, installation, maintenance, and repair of door locks, cylinders, cores and related door hardware preferred
Skills
- Must be familiar with the terminology of the trade: plywood grade marks; grades of lumber, etc.
- Knowledge of carpentry principles and their application to maintenance, installation and repair
- Knowledge of residential, commercial, and heavy construction trade techniques
- Skill normally attributed to a journeyman carpenter who has completed a recognized apprenticeship or vocational program
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to access and utilize technology for work orders, email, calendar, timesheets, training and other functions
- Project a professional image including punctuality and good attendance record
- Ability meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality
Physical Demands
- Be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders and operate lifts to accomplish work, and not be afraid of heights
- Must be able to stand and crouch for long periods of time, and be able to access all areas of campus, including roofs

Work outside during all types of weather
- Must be available for call-in work during off duty hours
- Work alone or in groups
- Work indoors and outdoors as necessary, including without heat and air conditioning and during inclement weather
- Must be able to complete all assigned training/courses as directed by the Associate Director of Facilities Management
- Travel is necessary to maintain college assets; including to Holland as needed
- Use of ladders, scaffolding, and scissors lifts to complete overhead work
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Occasional overtime may be required
