This position will be responsible for direct and authentic community engagement/outreach, providing
program support, coordination, and recruitment for GRCC’s programs and partners as defined by the
W.K. Kellogg Equitable Empowerment Through Career Pathways project. This position is responsible
for ensuring potential students understand the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for their
career choices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Outreach and Recruitment

  • Serve as a liaison between the selected neighborhoods of focus and the GRCC M-TEC to ensure opportunities and requirements are communicated effectively.
  • Attend community events and meetings representing the grant and GRCC programs in the focus neighborhoods.
  • Establish, maintain and deepen relationships with community-based and/or faith-based organizations, schools, and businesses in West Michigan to meet grant outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with grassroots leaders in the neighborhood, significantly increasing pipeline of grant participants.
  • Make presentations to community groups to share information on GRCC programs and services.

Participant Connections

  • Provide educational information and opportunities to Kellogg Grant participants and GRCC students.
  • Provide formal learning opportunities, which includes but is not limited to:
    • A determination of participant’s career guidance and job readiness suitability for the type of training needed
    • Assist with enrolling participants in GRCC or vocational/occupational training/education.
    • Collaborate with partners to help identify and address learning barriers.
    • Provide exit assessments for the purpose of referral to appropriate agencies or departments.
    • Document and maintain individual participant and grant files.
    • Monitor overall participant performance in education and training programs.
    • Monitor/coordinate follow-up with education and training retention participants on at least a monthly basis.
    • Attend meetings as required.
    • Use and enter information into AirTable designed to track grant participants’ progress.
    • Process new referrals.
  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present and active in the community is essential for serving customers and performing the foundational functions of this position.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Preferred degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Community Relations, Outreach, Counseling or Social Work.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with community organizations, non-profits or neighborhood organizations preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years’ proven work experience serving adults with diverse backgrounds and/or barriers.

Physical Demands

  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to provide their own transportation to meetings in the State of Michigan.
  • Candidates must be able to lift 10 lbs. to transport materials to off-site meetings and events.

  • Position requires some evening and weekend work to attend and participate in community activities and meetings.
