Question
How do I export my course from Blackboard and import it into Canvas?

Note: Blackboard access ends August 19. Starting August 20, all courses will be hosted in Canvas. Faculty, staff, and students will no longer have access to Blackboard.
Note: IT has been migrating semester-based courses on a rolling basis beginning with the Summer 2024 semester. If you need a course prior to this and/or you need to export a template, organization, and/or portfolio, reference the instructions below.
Export Existing Course
- Go to the course you intend to export.
- In the Course Management menu, find the Control Panel.
- Under Packages and Utilities, click on Export/Archive Course.
- On the Export/Archive Course page, click Export Package.
- Under Select Course Materials, choose which materials you wish to export or click Select All.
- Click Submit.
Download Course Package
- You will receive an email from Blackboard when the course export is complete.
- Go back to the Export/Archive Course page and click Refresh.
- The export .zip file will appear under Packages Created Manually.
- Click the export file hyperlink and save it to your computer.
Import Course Package to Canvas
- Open the Canvas course where you want to import the content.
- Click Settings in the course navigation menu.
- Click Import Course Content on the right side.
- For Select Content Type, select Blackboard 6/7/8/9 Ultra export .zip file from the dropdown menu.
- Click browse your files and upload the Blackboard export .zip file you saved earlier.
- Select All Content (or Select Specific Content if you only want certain materials).
- Click Import.
