How to access Files within VMWare

How do you add items within VMWare's environment?

 

Environment

  • VMWare
  • Any non VMware Device
  • Google Drive
  • Email

 

Information

Because of how VMWare is, regardless if you use the Client or the Website version, you cannot add items by dragging and dropping or connecting a external drive to your computer. In order to add items to VMWare you have a couple options

  • File Sharing Services (Google Drive, One Drive, Wetransfer, etc)
  • Email to yourself (Gmail, Yahoo, Etc)

 

Answer

File Share Application (Google Drive)

  1. Go to https://drive.google.com/
  2. Log in
  3. Click New at the Top Right Corner on Google Drive
  4. Depending on what you need, you can upload either an entire folder for multiple items, or upload an individual file
    1. For Individual Item
      1. Select file
      2. Click File upload
    2. For Folder(Multiple Items)
      1. Select Folder
      2. Click Folder Upload
  5. Wait until item is uploaded
  6. Once upload is completed, Open VMWare
  7. Open https://drive.google.com/ on VMware
  8. click on desired file(s)
  9. Click Download on selected file(s)
  10. Save files in J Drive to not loose them

Email Option

  1. Open https://mail.google.com/
  2. Click Compose
  3. On the email draft, at the bottom, click the attachment icon (Paperclip icon)
  • Depending on file size, files will send as a Google Drive link and automatically upload them to your google drive
  1. select desired files
  2. Change 'to' to your email address
  3. Send
  4. Open VMWare
  5. Open https://mail.google.com/ in VMWare
  6. download attached files
