Blackboard Requiring password for Respondus Test

When a test was created in Respondus it is automatically generating a test in Blackboard. If the Blackboard checkbox is unselected to require a password Respondus will throw an error message.

  • Respondus Lockdown Browser
  • Blackboard

Respondus LockDown Browser uses the test password functionality in Blackboard to ensure that students are using the LockDown Browser to access the test. When a test is configured to use LockDown Browser, the password checkbox is marked off and a random password is added under the Blackboard test settings. This internal password is not something the students will need to enter, but rather is used by LockDown Browser to force the LockDown Browser requirement for the exam.

Please note: A student will be prompted to enter a password if they attempt to access the quiz outside of the Respondus Lockdown Browser environment.

If using Respondus LockDown Browser and it is still prompting for an unwanted password check the following

  1. Log in to Blackboard and navigate to a desired course.
  2. Locate the Course Management section on the bottom left menu bar
  3. Click Course Tools to expand the list of options.
  4. Click Respondus LockDown Browser
  5. Click Continue to LockDown Browser
  6. Click Settings for the exam in question
  7. Ensure the checkbox for Password to access exam is unchecked.
