Information

With Drive File Stream, you can:

  • Quickly see Drive files in Finder/Explorer.
  • Browse and organize Drive files without downloading all of them to your computer.
  • Choose which files or folders you'd like to make available offline.
  • Open files in common apps like Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop.

 

Answer

Install using Software Center:

  1. Open Software Center on any GRCC computer, search for "Drive File Stream"
  2. Login using your school administered email.

 

Install from Browser:

  1.  Follow this link: https://support.google.com/drive/answer/7329379
  2. Click Download & Install Drive File Stream.
  3. Choose your operating system.
  4. Follow on-screen instructions.

 

General Use Help

Accessing your Files:

  1. Click the Drive File Stream Menu (Pictured below)
  2. Click Open Google Drive Folder in the top of the menu, next to your name.

 

Save a file for offline use:

  1. Click the Drive File Stream MenuDrive File Stream
  2. Click Open Google Drive folderGoogle Drive folder
  3. Right-click the file or folder you want to save offline.
  4. Click Drive File Stream > Available offline.
  5. Once your file is saved offline, you'll see a green check mark next to it.

 

Change where your files are stored:

  1. Click the Drive File Stream MenuDrive File Stream
  2. Click MoreMore > Preferences.
  3. Under "Local cached files directory," click Change.
    • On Windows: To change the Drive letter, click the down arrow under "Drive letter."
    • On Mac: To change the Mount point, under "Mount location," click Change.
  4. Choose where you want your files to be stored.
  5. Click Ok.

 

Issues on macOS High Sierra (10.13) or newer:

  1. Open Drive File Stream.
  2. At the top left of your screen, go to:Apple menu>System Preferences>Security & Privacy.
  3. Next to "System software from developer 'Google, Inc.' was blocked from loading," click Allow.

 

Change Where Files are Stored:

To change where Drive File Stream stores data for offline use:

  • Click the Drive File Stream MenuDrive File Stream
  1. Click More:More>Preferences
  2. Under "Local cached files directory," click Change.
    • On Windows: To change the Drive letter, click the down arrow under "Drive letter."
    • On Mac: To change the Mount point, under "Mount location," click Change.
  3. Choose where you want your files to be stored.
  4. Click Ok.

 

How to Pause Syncing:

  1. Click the Drive File Stream MenuDrive File Stream
  2. Click More:More>Pause syncing.

To resume syncing, click MoreMore>Resume syncing.

 

Switching Accounts:

If you have more than one Google Account through work or school, you can change which one you use.

Note: Any files kept offline will be removed.

  1. Click the Drive File Stream MenuDrive File Stream
  2. Click More:More>Preferences
  3. Sign in with the account you want to use.
