Camtasia Error When Opening


When a customer launches Camtasia they are presented with the following installer error message. 



  • TechSmith Camtasia 



This issue typically occurs when the shortcut for Camtasia does not know the file location to launch the program. 

  1. Confirm that you can run the application from C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Camtasia2021\. If not, uninstall/reinstall application and/or update to the newest version in the Software Center
    • Note the version of Camtasia and update the file path accordingly.  

If it runs from Program Files

Desktop Shortcut

  1. Find the Camtasia shortcut on the Desktop
  2. Right-click on the application
  3. Choose Properties
  4. In the Start in: section paste C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Camtasia2021\ 
  5. Click Apply
  6. Click OK.

Start Menu

  1. Find the Camtasia shortcut on the Start Menu
  2. Right-click on the application
  3. Click More
  4. Click Open file location 
  5. Right-click on the application
  6. Click Properties
  7. In the Start in: section paste C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Camtasia202\ 
  8. Click Apply
  9. Click OK
